My Contributions
I was tasked with creating a brand for the "Shores of Freedom" event organized by League of Ukrainian Canadian Women. The event’s aim was to promote and honour the post-WWII wave of immigration of Ukrainians and their contributions to Canada. The event was held at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in May 2019.
Logo process

The logo had to reflect the name of the event – Shores of Freedom; show the Ukrainian heritage; and be bilingual. Therefore, the logo combines the lighthouse as a symbol of hope for the arriving immigrants, while using the motifs from traditional Ukrainian pysanka – a hand-painted Easter egg. Here is the example used for inspiration:

In the designs, I used a black and white archival photo of the ship arriving to Pier 21, to emphasize the historical context of the event.
The colour scheme was chosen to accent the subdued photography, but not to distract too much from it. The font I used throughout is Comfortaa – I chose it for the rounded feel, to complement the round logo and the wave pattern.
